Both Brad Fittler and Billy Slater have been forced into some enormous calls ahead of the 2022 State of Origin series, with a total of 12 debutants across the 44 players selected, including eight likely to play next Wednesday.
They have come as a result of surprise form runs through the opening 12 rounds of the competition and injuries, but nonetheless will create an intriguing sidestory heading into rugby league's biggest event.
Here are all the big talking points ahead of Game 1 after both teams were named on Sunday night and Monday morning.
2. Did Fittler get his centre question right?
Brad Fittler was forced into naming two new centres for the opening game in the 2022 State of Origin series after both Tom Trbojevic and Latrell Mitchell went down with injuries.
The duo, who were oh so important to the New South Wales cause last year, have been replaced by Kotoni Staggs and Stephen Crichton, who have edged out Matt Burton and Campbell Graham for the right to wear sky Blue.
Or at least, that's what it looked like on Sunday night.
Brad Fittler has now confirmed that Jack Wighton will start in the centres alongside Staggs, with Crichton to come from the bench and Nicho Hynes bumped back to 18th man.
While there is little dispute about the form both Crichton and Staggs have been in - and their respective teams the Panthers and Broncos for that matter - you can't help but feel Campbell Graham should have been in the side.
The selection of Wighton has only added an extra layer of complexity to what, on the surface, looks an odd decision.
While Burton was always an unlikely option to play in the centres, his combination with Nathan Cleary and Jarome Luai could have been tempting.
Graham, on the other hand, had real claim on one of those centre jumpers that now belong to Crichton and Staggs.
The most important factor is that he has shifted to the left-hand side of the park in the last few rounds for the South Sydney Rabbitohs at club level, and would have given the Blues extra punch.
He was also in the squad last year, and is a very solid defender, something both Crichton and Staggs can have lacking from their respective games at times.
With Wighton starting though, and neither Crichton or Graham running out in the jersey, it's quite easy to suggest Fittler has got this call wrong.
