How the NRL Player Ratings work
The NRL Player Ratings are a live, fan-driven ranking of the best rugby league players across every position. Powered by votes from the NRL Player Rater, these rankings reflect real opinions from fans comparing players in head-to-head matchups.
Players are only matched against others in their primary position, ensuring accurate comparisons across their position: fullback, winger, centre, five-eighth, halfback, hooker, prop, second-row, and lock. This allows fans to clearly identify the best NRL players head-to-head by position.
Our rankings are calculated using an Elo rating system, where every player starts equal and moves up or down based on results. Beating a higher-rated opponent significantly boosts a player's ranking, while losing to a lower-rated player results in a larger drop.
Because the system is dynamic and constantly updating, the NRL Player Ratings reflect current form, consistency, and fan perception. Players can rise quickly with strong performances, but maintaining a top ranking requires consistently outperforming other elite players.
