Is there anything better than a State of Origin bolter?

That pick that comes, seemingly, out of nowhere and shocks us all. The selection that messes up all of our predicted sides and creates chaos across social media.

Over the years there have been some memorable ones. Today we'll focus on those made since 2010.

This came about due to a left field pick made for the opener. Where does the selection of Tevita Pangai Junior rank among the top five selection surprises since 2010?

3. Andrew McCullough (2018)

This has more to do with circumstance than anything else, but to call McCullough's appearance in the 2018 Origin series a "shock" is putting it midly.

McCullough's selection came following the shock retirement of the incumbent Queensland number nine.

You may have heard of him - Cameron Smith.

It was just assumed Cam Smith would be running out as captain in 2018, and seemingly forever if we're honest, only for the bombshell announcement that caught everyone off guard.

McCullough himself was included who admitted that his "bags were already packed" with a mid-season trip to Bali booked with his wife.

Kevin Walters had to call McCullough to ask him to cancel the trip to be available for Origin camp.

His selection at Origin level was absolutely justified but up until his name was called, I don't think anyone every truly expected it.

The pressure of being the next man up after arguably the best to ever play the game was always going to be intense.

Considering the way it came about and the fact McCullough was already packed for a mid-season vacation, this could even rank higher here on this list.
