Is there anything better than a State of Origin bolter?

That pick that comes, seemingly, out of nowhere and shocks us all. The selection that messes up all of our predicted sides and creates chaos across social media.

Over the years there have been some memorable ones. Today we'll focus on those made since 2010.

This came about due to a left field pick made for the opener. Where does the selection of Tevita Pangai Junior rank among the top five selection surprises since 2010?

4. Jacob Saifiti (2022)

Another Freddy special in that this selection shocked the wider NRL community. To be fair, Saifiti was very good on debut and more than justified his surprise call up.

A few years after the success of brother Daniel's almost as surprising Origin call, Fittler opted for the second of the Saifiti twins.

Fittler opted to overlook Reagan Campbell-Gillard, even after replacement forward Jordan Mclean was ruled out though injury.

The fact that the rookie selection came in a series decider made this even more unlikely.

With the series on the line, at Suncorp Stadium no less, Fittler's naming of an Origin newcomer over a more experienced rep option beggared belief.

As mentioned previously, Saifiti would reward Fittler's faith with a try and a brilliant stint, but the fact he's been overlooked for the 2023 series opener just doubles down on the unlikely hood of his initial call up.
