The top TEN QLD stars who probably won’t play Origin in 2020

Last week we looked at 10 unlucky New South Wales players who probably won't play Origin this year Today, we move into the rival camp and name 10 Queensland players who will likely miss out on selection. Anthony Milford Earlier this year I said Milford will play Origin in 2020. This may be true, but only if there's a residents game as the curtain raiser. DCE and Munster are the halves combo (injury aside) but even if one is missing, Milford's form has dropped off so dramatically that he has fallen down the pecking order. For years Milford was talked up as a certain Origin regular but has thus far failed to live up to that hype. He will need a huge turn around in form to be there. Right now, I can't see it. (Photo by Bradley Kanaris/Getty Images)[/caption] Jarrod Wallace Wallace represented his state on six occasions and truthfully looked set for a long and successful stint in the rep side. Unfortunately he is struggling to hold onto his place in one of the NRL's struggling outfits right now. With the incredible crop of young players coming through I can't make a case for Wallace despite his experience. With the emergence of young Carrigan in Brisbane and the brilliant form of Tim Glasby, I can't find a spot for Welch. Papalii has a mortgage on one prop spot with Arrow, Napa, Glasby and Carrigan battling it out for other spots. Right now I have Welch one spot outside of a return to Origin. He'll go mighty close if he does miss out. (Photo by Bradley Kanaris/Getty Images)[/caption] Joe Ofahengaue The third straight prop to miss out. The QLD Origin starter from Game Three in 2019 won't feature. A pre-season incident and irregular first grade footy will cost him. Carrigan has topped him at club level and is above him in the pecking order. He has time to make up the gap but the Broncos pack is one of supreme talent, despite misfiring currently. At full strength, I can't see him getting the game time to push his claim. That said, Holmes and Gagai are proven Origin superstars and it's going to take an injury for the Cowboys winger to get a real look in. If Walters decides that Gagai's form just isn't up for Origin anymore I can certainly see Feldt's name coming up, but right now it's an outside chance at best. Oates size and experience probably has him just ahead of Feldt too. (Photo by Matt Roberts/Getty Images)[/caption] Kurt Capewell This one may come as a shock but prior to his injury Capewell was moving toward a rep jumper. He has been named in extended squads for Queensland previously and has become a real weapon in a utility role. He could very easily snag a role on the bench as a second rower or utility but a long-term injury has put paid to that right now. He can return will time to stake a claim however he starts behind the eight ball. (Photo by Mark Kolbe/Getty Images)[/caption] Ethan Lowe The Souths edge back rower had an incredible Origin debut in 2019. He turned the game for the Maroons late on and almost saw them to victory. Unfortunately his form has dropped off in 2020 and combined with the emergence of plenty of young forwards, Lowe's Origin career may prove a one time experience. Nothing against the experienced former Cowboy, but I think Walters will opt to blood some ridiculously talented young talent. Kaufusi and Fifita will start in the second row with Lowe's best chance being a bench spot. He lacks the impact. (Photo by Tony Feder/Getty Images)[/caption] Corey Norman Norman didn't let anyone down last season in the interstate clash, however, was only chosen due to circumstance. Ponga's injury and Val Holmes NFL dream meant that Cam Munster was shifted to fullback, allowing Norman to come in at 6. Munster and DCE will be chosen unless there's an injury to either. Ponga is the obvious choice for fullback, with Holmes the deputy. I can't see a spot for Norman who despite glimpses just isn't delivering for the Red V. (Photo by Mark Kolbe/Getty Images)[/caption] Corey Oates Just prior to the restart of the NRL season I predicted Oates would play Origin on the wing for Queensland this year. Hardly a brave statement considering his history in rep footy, but as it stands I can't find a place for the sadly out of form winger. He has plenty of time to play himself back into contention but Valentine Holmes is a certainty and I'd play Gagai ahead of him based on the Souths wingers incredible Origin record. Oates will need to be well above the two aforementioned players in terms of form to trouble either. Right now, he simply isn't. (Photo by Scott Barbour/Getty Images)[/caption] Harry Grant It's incredible to think that one of the form players of the competition in young Harry Grant may not play Origin in 2020. But simply put, I can't see where they can fit him in. Ben Hunt is the incumbent Origin number nine and looks a far more confident player since shifting into dummy half while Jake Friend's experience has him primed for a bench spot if Walters opts to split the hooking duties. Grant has months of footy ahead of him to force his way into contention but arguably sits at number three in the pecking order as it stands. He has Origin written all over him, just not in 2020.
