Good coaches are becoming more and more valuable by the season.
We've seen what Ivan Cleary has been able to build at Penrith, while the Storm have never had an extended dip.
Benji Marshall seems to finally have the Wests Tigers on the right path, Kieran Foran has transformed the Sea Eagles almost overnight and Michael Maguire came in a won a title with the Broncos in his first season.
Today though, we're looking at some decisions that have either gone wrong or are just outright wrong.
Typically I don't like to focus on the negatives in the game but after the week I had to endure (hello "obstructor" rulings) I believe I've earned it.
With that said, here are five of the top coaching errors of 2026 ... thus far:
4. Trent Robinson benching Siua Wong for Nat Butcher - Round 1
This one feels like nitpicking but I 100% stand behind it.
Some coaches have favourite players. Blokes that must smash it at training but that fans are unable to see in the same light.
For Roosters coach Trent Robinson, that seems to be in Nat Butcher.
This is a player I called to play Origin for NSW ... five years ago.
23 year-old Siua Wong is the future in the second row for the tri colours. He's also the present.
I don't quite understand why Butcher was named for Round One. The move was very quickly reversed from Round Two and the Roosters edge has been far better, on both sides of the ball.
I don't mean to pick on one player but it honestly looked like Robinson had copied and pasted a team sheet from 2023 and forgot to swap the two.
To his credit, he corrected it very quickly. Still though.
