South Sydney superstar Latrell Mitchell's name has been added to the list of names ready to test the market come November 1st.
Reports have indicated Souths are willing to take a "wait and see" plan of action with their star attraction.
I believe they expect Latrell to re-sign with the club regardless of who he speaks to.
We've seen stranger moves in rugby league though recently. No one expected Payne Haas to leave the Broncos, ironically for the Bunnies of South Sydney.
The two new clubs have sent shockwaves through the NRL player market to the point players would be doing themselves a huge disservice to not test the waters.
Obviously Latrell Mitchell would be in hot demand and has already been linked with multiple clubs.
Here are six potential landing destinations for Latrell Mitchell should he choose to look elsewhere:
2. Newcastle Knights
This is only if Bradman Best leaves the club.
In terms of "country" travel (i.e. outside of the major cities) Newcastle is a short trip away from Taree, Latrell's true home.
If Best is to move clubs, then Latrell Mitchell is the perfect replacement.
They're at a similar level, they're on roughly the same money and they play similar amounts of games each year.
If Best stays, then I can't see a world where this move is possible, money-wise.
Newcastle should go out of their way to keep Best in the Hunter but if he is tempted away, then the Knights can offer something no other team here can, a homecoming.
Latrell is closer to the end than the beginning so to come full circle and play for the Knights ... there's some romance there.
