5. Was Selwyn Cobbo the best option for Queensland?

As the saying goes, if you're old enough, you're good enough, and that is clearly the thought process which has been applied to the selection of Cobbo by Slater and his selection panel.

Slater himself is a former Origin gun and knows exactly what to expect at this level. If there was ever a coach who will be able to ensure Cobbo is ready to play next Wednesday, it's probably Slater.

But that doesn't mean this was necessarily the best call for Queensland.

While Cobbo has lit up the park in the last month for the Broncos as the club went on an unexpected winning streak, it doesn't mean he has been at his best all season.

A very quiet start to the campaign saw the youngster struggle to find his feet at NRL level, and while that may well have been him just trying to find his feet, the comparison drawn between his performances in a losing side and a winning side is not a good one.

In Origin football, the most important traits for a winger are run metres and defensive efficiency. Cobbo's statistics when Brisbane were losing are incredibly poor for both of those key metrics, which is when the best wingers should be judged.

It's an intriguing call to say the least.
