Shockwaves were sent through the NRL landscape over the past 24 hours as Roosters superstar Sam Walker put the Roosters on hold.
Despite a huge money offer, news has spread that Walker may be willing to test his market value come November 1st, although he could still lock up an extension with the Roosters once the season is over.
With the money and opportunity on offer due to two new clubs entering the competition, Walker would be mad not to explore his options.
If he does hold out until November, there will be no shortage of suitors. Probably 14 clubs would have a look, but I'be narrowed it down to five, genuine options here.
Here are five potential landing spots for Sam Walker in 2028:
4. Perth Bears
The Perth Bears need to land a marquee signing before they kick off if 2027.
Although Walker wouldn't be able in 2027, to announce his signing for 2028 would be absolutely massive.
Perth are in a position where they can throw insane money and opportunity at Walker and it's really no risk.
I don't believe there's a player in the competition worth $1.8 million but the Bears should offer that to Walker. Slap on the captaincy and make it a six year deal.
Perth's entire trajectory changes with a signing of Walker's magnitude. If they play it safe and miss out, it's just another in the list.
I don't like ten year deals (in fact I downright hate them) but if that is what it takes, get it done!
I cannot stress enough how important adding a mid 20's Origin and Kangaroos (by then) representative will be to the entire future of rugby league in the west.
Whether or not Walker has any interest in the move is very much up for debate, but the Bears are tasked with ensuring they throw everything at this.
