Shockwaves were sent through the NRL landscape over the past 24 hours as Roosters superstar Sam Walker put the Roosters on hold.
Despite a huge money offer, news has spread that Walker may be willing to test his market value come November 1st, although he could still lock up an extension with the Roosters once the season is over.
With the money and opportunity on offer due to two new clubs entering the competition, Walker would be mad not to explore his options.
If he does hold out until November, there will be no shortage of suitors. Probably 14 clubs would have a look, but I'be narrowed it down to five, genuine options here.
Here are five potential landing spots for Sam Walker in 2028:
5. Brisbane Broncos
The former Ipswich Jet certainly has plenty tying him to Brisbane. Many assumed he'd follow his father Ben's career and debut at the Broncos.
Fast forward and there's every chance he heads back there as the club's marquee, long-term number seven.
The Broncos are experts at maximising the salary cap and have the added bonus of massive potential third party deals.
Ezra Mam has re-signed long-term as the club's number six. With Adam Reynolds and Ben Hunt retiring (end of 2026 and 27 respectively) the number seven jumper is somewhat open.
Jonah Pezet arrives in 2027 and will probably start at seven but let's be real here, it's not even close as to who wins a potential Walker vs. Pezet "battle".
They were linked with Walker in 2024. I remember articles being written that suggested he was headed "home" to Red Hill at the tie.
There's no chance in the world that the Broncos don't have a dip here come 12:01 am on November 1st, should Walker become available.
