Brisbane Broncos skipper Adam Reynolds is set to be ruled out of the premiers' clash with the high-flying New Zealand Warriors on Saturday.
Fresh reports from the Courier Mail reveal Reynolds took no part in training on Tuesday despite being given the green light to return from a head knock that sidelined him in their loss against the Dolphins last week.
It is understood Reynolds is also touch-and-go for next week's fixture against the Raiders after a battle with general soreness during a tough final year of his career.
There is every chance the classy playmaker will be given extra time to get his body right for his farewell match against the Storm in the club's final home game of the season the following week.
Reynolds' last ride in Round 27 will be fittingly at Accor Stadium against the Bulldogs, the ground where he found plenty of success in the red and green.
Although Brisbane coach Michael Maguire assured it was a "week-to-week" basis, Reynolds is near the end of his illustrious career.
“That's a week-to-week one,” Maguire said of Reynolds to the Courier Mail.
“We'll see how he is next week. It's not just the concussion.
“He's done everything possible to get the most out of his body.
“Knowing his journey and seeing what he's achieved in the game is quite remarkable.
“It's important we respect all that through the last part of this year.”
Reynolds will call time on his 15-season career after winning two premierships, one with South Sydney in 2014 and one with Brisbane last year.
Reynolds was highly instrumental in both campaigns, steering both sides to break their respective premiership droughts. The first being a 43-year break with the Bunnies and 19 years between drinks for Brisbane.
Meanwhile, hooker Billy Walters is set to hold his hooker position after a dazzling display in the Broncos' 40-32 loss against their cross-town rivals.
It means Corey Paix is expected to be overlooked, as Walters has made a powerful return after a long layoff following an ACL injury.
The Broncos severely missed Walters' spark out of dummy-half during their 2026 title defence season campaign and will finish the year in the bottom quarter of the competition.
With the Dragons pulling off an upset win against the Sharks, the gap between last and second-to-last has shrunk to three wins.
Without a bye to end the season, and with the Red V expected to finish the year running downhill, the Broncos may find themselves close to a wooden spoon in their premiership defence season.
The Broncos will hope to get a win before their season finishes; otherwise, they risk the Dragons pulling off a miracle and overtaking them.
