South Sydney's Cody Walker believe Braidon Burns is the club's long-term answer to replace Greg Inglis at centre.

Inglis will move into a variety of new roles at South Sydney and is believed to be on a $200,000 salary. However, the Bunnies are left with a $1.5 million void after their skipper retired 18 months prior to his deal ending.

Bryson Goodwin and Brisbane's Gehamat Shibasaki are seen as short-term solutions for Wayne Bennett's side, who will be in the running to make a big signing in 2020.

Walker discussed how Inglis' injury provides a great opportunity for a young player to emerge.

"I think it's a great opportunity for a young kid to step up and take Greggy's spot," Walker told the Herald.

"You'll never replace Greggy, it will never happen in one million years because he's a once-in-a-generation player.

"I believe it's Braidon Burns. He's shown at the start of the season he's comfortable with that position and will take it with both hands. He's working hard to get back. He got injured and then it opened up an opportunity for 'dog' [Kyle Turner] and he's done a wonderful job."

Currently sidelined with an ankle injury sustained in round three, the 22-year old is still a month away from a return.

  1. Lock up your Centres everybody to long term contracts, soufffffths the “TRANSIT LOUNGE” are on the prowl seeking whom they may devour. 😂😂😂😂🤣😁😆😂😂😂

Braidon Burns born in Dubbo and is a Coonamble Bears local junior was discovered by Penrith who signed him up because with the biggest junior base on Earth Penrith can’t produce a locally born centre but was stolen off them by souffffths and at 23, in a couple of months, is a late starter for NRL standards. However he should be a good back up until they can purchase a big name player. I think soufffths will go for Corey Oates and move Campbelltown Graham into the centres.🎱🎱🎱🎱🎱🎱🎱🎱🎱

  2. How the hell can they do this?
If you remember back to 2017 Manly tried to get Steve Matai and Brett Stewart out of their salary cap, they were unable to do that.
Nathan Ross retired just a few weeks ago at Newcastle. Knights are still carrying him in the salary cap. Yet somehow the NRL is allowing Souffs to take it out of the salary cap.
Inglis has forgone the rest of his contract money which equates to $1.5 million over the next season and a half, and that’s how they’ve justified it.

THIS IS Favouritism at its best.

    NRL = joke.

  3. Here you are again Woodchip popping up on every Rabbitoh forum.
Your admiration for this great club is undeniable.

  4. No I just want uncle Nick to be aware of the “TRANSIT LOUNGE RABBIT’OS” and for him to extend our Rooster contracts. Soufffffths are like a single horney bloke (rabbit) on a Thailand holiday with 1.5 million to spend.

  5. Can see Latrell Mitchell at Souths 2021 and beyond.
Has a much stronger cultural connection with the Rabbitohs and I’m sure he feels it as well.
    Look forward to the announcement.

  6. Latrell Mitchell is a future Rooster Captain and he knows it. Latrell will be staying put at the Sydney Roosters. He loves the place. So does is off sider Joseph Manu. They have both been at the Chooks since 2014 and both will still be at the Chooks come 2030😂💪🐔👍🤣

  7. It’s very easy and simple to understand, the manly pair still wanted their monthly payments on backended deals and were not going to give that up….. the club tried to pension them off and were denied… GI simply said no to $1.5m and now works mon-fri with club really don’t know why people are jumping up and down, all manly boys had to do was walk away from $$$ and it would have been the same for them

  8. Totally agree.
Penrith tried to get salary cap relief for Peter Wallace last season also. He had to retire based fully on medical grounds.
The NRL said no way with that case .
It all depends on which club is doing the asking. Just the same as on field decisions . It’s all biased!

  9. Well that’s interesting Wood Stock.
Didn’t your Chickens win a premiership with Michael Jennings in the centres?
How about a player that captained your chickens for ages. Went there as a centre. Brad Fittler.
What about Robert Jennings & George Jennings? Both are actually centres. So many more.
Look at all of Penrith’s lower grades & junior grades. Lots of local junior centres.
I could probably find Penrith centres in your so called Rorters junior teams .
There’s Penrith Juniors all over the place. So a big call to say they don’t produce any local junior centres.
As usual, you wouldn’t have a clue! You just make ridiculous statements , based on nothing ,

  10. 🙂 AHAHAHAHA, Is that all the centres you can come up with ChocySoldierOfDivide. Micheal Jennings wasn’t Good enough at Penrith and they fired him. Roosters coach reinvented the bloke who went onto win a premiership, play Origin, and play for Australia. Soon as he leaves that was the end of his rep honours. His two brothers are wingers but Maguire at Wests is transforming him into a centre.

As for Fittler mate, He neer played centre at the Roosters in nine seasons. He played 5/8 and a tinl bit of lock.

The last premiership Penrith purchased was in 2003 and the two centres Penrith purchase for that victory was Paul Whatuira who previously plated for the Warriors and the Storm, The other import was stolen off Illawarra Steelers.

  11. Your statement was that they never produced any good centres.
Now your going off on some other strange tangent. As you clearly have no idea what you’re talking about , as usual.
Doesn’t matter where they’re playing or played. Penrith juniors all the same . Produced by Penrith!!!!!!!!!
That’s not all of them either!
It’s such a rare thing for any player to come out of the Chickens tiny pen now days. It’s understandable that you wouldn’t have a clue about such things.
Although not at the top of the tables. Saw the Harold Matthews team blitz Crinulla & then Manly. The Jersey Flegg team put 50 on the previously undefeated Sharks on their home ground. What do you know! Actual good Penrith local juniors & centres there.
Next thing you know , some Chickens will be trying to buy them. You’ll be claiming they’re your local juniors!!
    What a joke!!!!!

  12. ChocolateSoldierOfDivide. you really are a CLOWN🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤣😂😆😁😆😂🤣….5 days after for a bit of a stir stated that Penrith don’t produce any decent centres and you still haven’t come up with any names. I can name at least 10 Penrith produced centres but you named two wingers and an ex Australian 5/8 rep who captained the Roosters to a premiership.

But Penrith are no different than any other club. You think you produce locals but you buy them also like Cleary and Waqa Blake Perth, Peta Hiku Manly, Jamal Idris Canterbury, Tyrone Peachey Cronulla, James Roberts souffffffths, Wes Naiqama Newcastle, Dean Whare Manly, Arana Taumata Roosters/Bulldogs, David Simmons Cronulla, Paul Whatuira Warriors.

So there you go ChocolateSoldier I named 10 panthers players that was produced by your local juniors.🤣😂😂😆😁😆😂🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😂😆😁😆😂🤣🤣🤣🤣😂😆😁😆😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣

NOT, YA CLOWN🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡. Just go on your merry way chochy soldier. Penrith are very slack at producing centres. 💪🐔👍 By the way you clowns haven’t been able to buy a premiership since 2003….🤣😂😆😁😆😂🤣
