  1. I am not convinced with Doueihi’s selection at half. I think that Conner Tracey would have been a better selection. Hope he proves me wrong.

    • I have only seen Doueihi play one game and I am already convinced that he is better than Adam Over Rated Reynolds. I think he looks like a very good prospect.

      • I have always thought that your comments made sense, but Doueihi who makes his NRL debut this weekend is already a better player than one who has won a GF, played SOS, and holds club point-scoring records? He may be a better player in the future, but not now. Good luck to the Dragons in 2018.

  2. We needed to drop Beau Scott for Edwards and Evans for Terepo.
I also would have dropped Taka for Will Smith.
Also I think Ma’u is no where near as good as he was in 2016. He started to slide last year and was bog average in the first game.
I would be thinking about dropping him for Niukore.
This is the one thing that annoys me about BA. He is a good coach but sticks with the old guys out of loyalty.
We have some very good young guys playing for Wenty who are better than a few of the guys in first grade but BA won’t give them a go.
I am starting to question his credentials as a first grade coach.

    • Whoa, steady on.

I’d concede Evans hasn’t done anything yet, and I’m both surprised and disappointed, but 1/2 an hour of game time is hardly a fair representation (although I could add the trial match to that too).

I’d agree Smith is a better utility than Taka’s, and as much as I’d hate to say it, because like BA I still think loyalty has a place, but I would run Smith off the bench over Taka’s, mainly because I don’t think King (or Pritchard) can do th 80min yet.

We’ve been over Scott and Edwards already, but Ma’u? You can’t be serous, are you a closet Manly supporter? For my money, he stays.

      • eelsalmighty go back and watch last season and see how much Ma’u went down hill and he looks to of carried that over into this season. Granted it is early days and am willing to give him another shot but I don’t think we will see an improvement from him.
We have a young gun like Niukore wasting away in Wenty and the Sharks are already sniffing around him.
I would hate to lose a young talent like him to keep hold of a couple of older players who are starting to wane.
Beau Scott is a perfect example.
he is past his used by date and by keeping him in the team we are missing out on blooding some real good young talent like Niukore and Ray Stone.

        • Part of the problem with Ma’u is how he is being used. When he was his most effective he was running much better lines and hitting holes. Parra seem to have fallen into the problem, both last year and in round 1, of having 5 middle forwards start the game. Both Ma’u and Moeroa, whilst playing a bit wider, are playing like middle forwards, just taking hit ups with very little footwork, off loading or hole running. Because of this they are easy pickings for the defensive line, which has limited their effectiveness. It doesn’t matter who we play in those positions, if the playing style doesn’t change the result won’t. Taka and Edwards are slight exemptions to that, Taka because he has a ball playing first mentality, and Edwards because I don’t think he even knows what he will do half the time.

At the end of the day it is one game, so no panicking is necessary. I would bring Edwards in for Scott, who is looking old and like he has gone a season too far. I would drop Alvaro to the bench, not because he didn’t play well, he did, but for better balance as the team really struggled with him and Mannah off the field. I would start Evans and give him a go, and bring in Terepo for Matagai as he, like Edwards, brings a lot more energy to the team.

I am not convinced either way on the best bench utility as each of them offers different things and often it is only hindsight that will tell you who was the best (in round 1 obviously Smith would have been handy when Moses came off, but that was an unknown). What has me leaning toward Smith though is that King looked to struggle to play out the 80, but that could be to do with the lack of trial games and match fitness, which will come.

  3. That Manly side looks much stronger than last week. Parker in for Wright, more pace, skill and height in our backline. Hastings over Brown, best thing Barrett has done, hopefully Hastings goes good. And Perrett for some more offloads and meters. More confident than last week for this game, Parra have a gun team and Ive got them top 4 but I don’t think they are 100% yet so its a good time to play them. Up at Brookie, we have to play well. Im going manly by 8.

    • I think we have beaten Manly the last 6 games in a row but going on our form against the Panthers I am not confident of extending that winning streak to 7 in a row.

    • I enjoyed what Croker did last friday, he looks a good solid first grader but I think he will be dropped to the bench soon for Hastings to play five-eight. Croker isnt an organsier or have a strong kicking game to control the side like Green did last year, DCE plays his best with an organiser so I prefer Hastings.

      • I wouldn’t think Barrett drops Croker just yet to the bench, just because it would shatter the young fella as Barrett publicly come out and backed Croker to he 5/8th.
He went ok, lots to learn, certainly Tom Wright is not the answer to 5/8th,
Not convinced he will make it in 2 st grade yet anyway and he is totally off the cuff with no organising and that’s definetely not what we need now..
If anything weight could come through interchange for couple mins a time to roam, or if enough injuries give him a run at centre, but the problem with centre is, both our wingers are not great decision makers in defence, which would definetely not help a young guy who isn’t a proper centre…

    • The team does look more balanced this week. A bit light on in the centres, but a better team on paper none the less. Normally I would be extremely confident coming up against Manly ;), but, as you have said, Parra look a bit underdone at the moment. I still think we will get the win, but it will be a close game.

  4. Flanno must be giving holmes one last chance to redeem himself. He better improve or back to the wing where he belongs. Duges to fullback & gray or ramien to centre.

    • What about Moylan to fullback? People on here will know that I am not a fan of his, but surely it would be better for the Sharks to get him out of the front line in defence and move him to fullback? He is also a much better ball player than Dugan, and having him at fullback might actually create space for Dugan in the centres.

  5. It is pretty clear to me that the only reason Billy Slater didn’t play last week was because they wanted him to play his 300th game in front of a home crowd. It had nothing to do with his shoulder injury.

  6. GO DOUEIHI PLEASE KEEP REYNO OUT OF THE 7 JUMPER ALL YEAR BECAUSE HE IS MADE OF PAPER AND WASHED UP…

    Shadow…
