South Sydney have reportedly joined Parramatta in talks with Ryan Matterson.

The Rabbitohs are set to meet with Matterson's management according to The Daily Telegraph as they try to replace club legend John Sutton.

No offer has been made but Matterson has declared that he wants to quit the Tigers with two years left on his deal.

Matterson has already met with Parramatta and reportedly all of Canterbury, Newcastle, St George Illawarra, Melbourne, Gold Coast, Cronulla and Penrith are keeping an eye on the 25-year-old.

Matterson has some interest in a Penrith deal but would have to work around the difficult relationship between the two clubs after the Ivan Cleary drama.

Wests Tigers are expected to request some form of compensation in any deal, whether financially or a player in return. Both the club and his teammates are understandably upset with Matterson wanting to quit mid-contract.

After last season Matterson left the Roosters for a three-year deal with the Tigers worth $350,000 a year. He now believes he could secure a bigger payday elsewhere and the interest is proving him right.

Tigers legend Robbie Farah is one of many who don't want Matterson back even if a deal with another club can't be agreed, stating that the dispute with the club is "beyond the point of return".

The Tigers gave him permission to negotiate with other clubs last month and he will join Esan Marsters in leaving the team.

  1. Bulldogs should go after him big time.
    Tolman Napa Jackson CHN Matterson
That’s a solid forward pack and Matterson is from Canterbury too

  2. LOL. Useless dragons only sign 35+ year old players. They’ll look and look and look, but that’s all they’ll do. They’ve got no cap, same team next year minus all the young guns we’ve let go.

  3. I doubt Matterson will go to South Sydney, the club usually buys nobodies and washed has beens.
Matterson is in a different class. He was 18th man this year for Origin and is on the improve after a big 2019.

  4. Matterson and Latrell Mitchell will be welcomed additions to Souths.
Bulldogs are making a big play for Latrell but his family have confirmed if he leaves the cap sombreros will go to Souths.
No secret has lost interest at the sombreros.

  5. Why would he sign for a club that is miles behind the dual Premiers. 30-6 is a team making up the numbers. Matterson will not join Souths, the rabbit hole of a place has peaked and next season will be on the decline. Canterbury or Parra are on the way up, I bet he will sign up with one of those clubs if the money is right.

Great to see Latrells father at the grand final, all decked out in Roosters colours again giving his son a big hug after the game.
Latrell will never join the club that introduced his father to adictive substances. Latrell is treated like a King at Sydney.

“Latrell will never join the club that introduced his father to adictive substances.”
Isnt Jake Friend the pharmacist at the roosters?

  7. Latrell’s dad would never wear an easts jumper he and his whole family despise and loathe easts just the mention of easts all latrell’s family members all throw up aka spew up fact.

“If the Sydney Roosters play at home on the SCG on Grand Final night next season, record will tumble. Every team gets theashed by the mighty Roosters at the SCG.
    Ask Souths fans 30-6”
Of course you can ask. The shifty sombreros made sure Sam B was suspended whilst at the same time 3 sombrero g.rubs were allowed to play that the MRC found no case to answer the week before.
Explains why MRC Chairman Beuttner departed 1 week later.
Now, may I ask Sydney Rooster fans a question?
Why are your members (whats left of them) converting over to Souths memberships in droves (confirmed by roosters insider) despite 2 recent premierships?
It explains the declining membership numbers last 2 years and the increase Souths are enjoying currently at 21000 for the 2020 season whilst the roosters membership is currently an appauling 650 for the 2020 season.
Popular answer is that rooster fans are embarrassed after the GF sham that took place and are not connecting with the arrogant culture of the club as a whole.

  9. You’re not wrong Eels!
I’d think it was great if Whare was swapped for half of the Canterbury Cup players around. Not just good first graders.
