Broncos prop Matt Lodge is expected to leave Brisbane in favour of a return to his hometown Sydney after this season, reports the Sydney Herald.

It is believed the 23-year old has an option in his contract for next year, but is homesick and desperate to move back to Sydney.

Lodge sat out the 2016 and 2017 seasons following his violent New York assault in 2015, before receiving a lifeline from the Broncos.

He enjoyed a strong season in 2018 and signed a two-year contract extension at the end of the year, despite reportedly considering a move.

The Broncos have struggled mightily so far in 2019, with Thursday's comprehensive 38-6 loss to the Rabbitohs dropping them to 2-6, and 13th place on the ladder.

The Broncos will face Manly at Suncorp Stadium on Friday night.

  1. souffffs “TRANSIT LOUNGE” will be favourites BUT the rumour is he wants to play with a great side that turns players into rep players and a club who plays for Premierships. That club is Sydney, Looks as though he may head to the Roosters if George Burgess doesn’t drop his asking price to join the Chooks. Everyone wants out of the Donkies with a nutter ex souffffffffs coach running the show🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂😆😬😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🎱🎱🎱🎱🎱🎱🎱🎱🎱

  2. The biggest joke I have heard is that stupid Matty Johns made a prediction that Brisbane will play Penrith in the Grand Final, which year I was wondering ?? Certainly not in 2019, Those 2 teams are more like Wooden Spoon contenders.

  3. Eeltragic you are wrong. Lets look at the 2018 Sydney Roosters Premiership side and what players represented what teams only from the Roosters and no other club.

    1. Tedesco played for Australia from the Roosters but never from Wests.
💥2. Tupou has played all his career with the Roosters and played Origin and Australia and Tonga
💥3 Mitchell has played all his career for the Roosters and played Origin and Australia.
💥4 Manu has played all his career for the Roosters and represented for NZ
5 Ferguson played for Australia from the Roosters but never represented Australia from his other clubs.
6 Kaery Played for Australia from the Roosters but never played rep football with souffffffffs
💥8. JWH played all his career with the Roosters less his first 6 games for Manly and has represented NZ
💥9. Friend played all his career for the Roosters and has represented for Australia.
💥10. Taukieaho Played his entire career for the Roosters and has represented NZ and Tonga
💥11. Cordner played all his career with the Roosters and played for and captained Origin and Australia
💥12. Aubusson played all his career with the Roosters and played for Country against City
💥13 Liu Played all his career with the Roosters and represented NZ
💥14 Napa played all his career at the Roosters and represented at Origin
💥15 Matterson played all his NRL career with the Roosters and represented City against Country.
16 Tetevano was injured in the grand final and had an operation which ruled him out for making his NZ DEBUT.
💥17. Radley played all his career with the Roosters and is a rep player of the future.
So Parra mad fan the players with a 💥 next to there name have only played with the Roosters, it looks like the only rep player that we bought from that premiership winning side was Cooper Cronk. and he had a busted shoulder blade.🤣😆🤣😆🤣😂🤣

The Roosters develop rep players. Get your FACTS STRAIGHT mate.💪🐔👊💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥

  4. Johns is the most stupid commentator getting around 90% of his comments and predictions turn out to be incorrect. He often jokes about it himself. Just listen closely to his comments on TV through a game and see for yourself🎱🎱🎱🎱🎱

  5. Hi Woody.
Tedesco and Fergo both played rep footy while at other clubs.
Tedesco represented NSW in SOO, City in City v Country, Italy and the Prime Ministers XIII while at another club.
Fergo represented NSW in SOO, Country in the City v Country, Prime Ministers XIII and Indigenous All stars while at other clubs.
This means both these players played representative football while at other clubs.

  6. Wow would you look at that. Matt Lodge who enjoyed being coached by Wayne Bennett and said he wanted him to stay says he wants to move to Sydney just after his current team got pumped by Wayne’s new team the Bunnies.
Funnily enough the Rabbits themselves look like they will be losing George Burgess who plays the same position as Lodge.

10/10 Matt Lodge moves to the Rabbits. George Burgess leaves.

  7. I know Parra have been making inquires but I hope we don’t sign him.
While he is a good player he is a low life, poor excuse for a human being and is not welcome at Parra and should not have been allowed back in the NRL.

  8. True Kev, I realised that but my point was they still reached the elite highest level playing at the Roosters, That’s why I only mentioned that they played for Australia from the Roosters but not with previous clubs. Actually Ferguson played 1 Origin game in 2013 and was suspended after that. He sat out 2014 and after rehabilitation was granted by the NRL to resume his career with the Roosters. Where he played his final 6 Origins and played 7 Tests.

So in reality of the 17 players that won the Grand Final the majority of the Rooster players had not played rep footy until they put on a Roosters jersey, Only Cooper Cronk Qld, Australia, Tedesco, NSW, and Fergo NSW.

eelstragic is absolutely incorrect what he said. “roosters buy every rep player” The truth is we don’t as you can see. Of the 15 rep players in the Roosters team 12 reached their achievements playing for the Roosters before any other teams. 💪🐔👍👍🎱🎱🎱

  9. Maybe if the Brisbane team pick up there bottom lips and turn up 2 play football an start winning , they’d probably b happy with the club there at but there no effort from these blokes nobody respects the jersey Club even themselves they think there all up and coming Origin players there’s no point thinking it’s about becoming one and that starts with every week being consistent .

Game needs 2 change the players should only get payed 4 a win not when they lose , all players r so money hungry and contacts talk should only b end of year. It effects the players the club they’re playing for and the fans that go to watch the players . I don’t feel that James Roberts cares at all about the team club or fans and he’s still getting payed.
He’s not the only player in Brisbanes team that feel the same, the difference between bird an Roberts r sofar apart it’s not funny. Birdy’s been putting in everything every week Lodge , TPJ an Roberts r all players that r always talk of leaving honestly why would a club even want them their attitudes are terrible.
