The Rabbitohs have been forced into a late change for Friday night's preliminary final against Canberra, with James Roberts set to miss with a thumb dislocation.

Coach Wayne Bennett revealed that the centre had not yet recovered in time for the grand final decider and it would be too painful to play.

He confirmed that a call was made on the club's Thursday morning team meeting.

“He is too sore,” Bennett told News Corp Australia.

“His body language (told us). He knows he can’t play.”

Bennett said Campell Graham would move into the centres, with Corey Allan coming onto the wing.

The legendary mentor said the team must push on and focus on the task at hand.

“It is what it is. We can’t do anything about it,” Bennett added.

“We have good coverage. We are fine.”

  1. Ahahahahahah
South Dudney rabbitdudo’s better try to sign Bird up immediately.
The girl like I predicated, would pull out so he will be fit for a Mad Monday Binge.

  2. South Dudney Rabbits already had a weak backline, now they are stuffed rabbits.
Twitone snd co, good luck for next season. NOT

  3. To be fair the drunken Roberts would of made no difference to the result, now it just give the south Sydney stain fans a excuse to cry about

  4. You two guys above are seriously deluded, get another life for christs sake or at least do something constructive with this one, anyway Souths will be ok , look forward to a great game.

Also see the NRL are giving away tickets for the Easts semi final, cant even sell 20,000 tickets, this proves that Easts crowd figures for the year are on the back of opposition teams like Saints and Souths but everyone knew that was the case anyway.

  5. This could be just a ploy from the Wiley old suoercoach Benny Benndog. I will believe it when I see it. If it is only just a thumb dislocation, well then im surprised that would keep RFoberts out. Strap it up & take a painkiller, easy done.

  6. You blokes have the worst chat ever, I agree we do have an average backline. Johnston being injured did us no favours. Bennett needs to sort our backline up. A few injuries to burns and Roberts stuffs us. Need better back up centres.

  7. Agree. Roberts is useless, unless there is nobody in front of him in which case he will score. Speed is all he has. Nothing else.

  8. The headline was “Souths Hit With Major Injury Blow”. I only read about James Roberts being injured? Who is the major loss? Surely there must be another part to this article.

  9. Cookeem normally I’d agree with you that you can just strap a dislocated thumb and still play but Roberts can barely catch the ball with 2 good hands

  10. The chicken patsies on here are rejoicing they might finally get 1 right after weeks of amateur tipping against the great Souths.
Makes it tough for the Rabbitohs now and a GF between Storm and Raiders will be a great game.

  11. Looking at all the frenzy going on here just confirms what a great player and respect James Robert has.
So much input for 1 player didnt realise how worried they all were.
Like flies swarming over a carcass.
    Hilarious. 🤣🤣🤣

  12. The reason for the excited frenzy TwityONE, your diatribe is about to end. In saying that, you’ll cop in spades… Are you red, red, ready?

  13. “Makes it tough for the Rabbitohs now and a GF between Storm and Raiders will be a great game.”

Typical loser mentality, already admitting defeat.

  14. Back2back19 speaking of coward mentality who disappeared for a week after r25 then jumped all over it after the semi? Please.
On nrl tonight mentioned how good souths have done getting to hear playing most of the season with 40% of their salary cap.
Not bad when you consider the roosters playing with 140% of the salary cap all year.
No soul equals failing membership as has shown again.

  15. chookstool what did your rabbi tel you about confronting the opposition who only have stones to fight with which looks like the situation Souths are in?
There’s nothing to boast about over a team with their backs against the wall unless is from a coward obviously like yourself.
Be careful what you ask for as the saying goes.

  16. Phil Rothfield said on 360 tonight it’s no secret the roosters have a small fan base and they have given away thousands of tickets to get people to the game.
    What a disgrace.
Does any more need to be said about the roosters?

  17. An NRL spokesperson also confirmed thousands of tickets also given away during the year for scg games.
Now we know why GoonWest’s chickens have 2nd highest home game attendance.
Because half the crowd is non paying!!!
So mate please give up on your crowd figure crusade.
It’s all a myth confirmed once and for all.

  18. “Phil Rothfield said on 360 tonight it’s no secret the roosters have a small fan base ”
Now it makes sense, you listen to Phil rothfield hahahahahahahaha

  19. After browsing through the above comments, it is without doubt the South Sydney fans have little knowledge of facts, figures or Rugby League in general. Quite amusing.
