South Sydney Rabbitohs are set to offer an extension to Cody Walker following a strong run of form in the backend of the year.
Walker is 36 years old but still dominating the league with CODE Sports revealing South Sydney is set to give him a 12-month extension at the club he made his NRL debut with ten years ago.
The former NSW Blues representative finished the year running downhill and sat at the top end of the NRL leaderboards for the 2026 season.
It includes 26 try assists and 27 line-break assists, causing havoc down the left edge, allowing long-term teammate Alex Johnston to cross the white stripe on a mountain of occasions.
Walker's teammates, including Campbell Graham, have called for his re-signing during the year as he sat without a deal beyond November.
Graham praised Walker's ability to act as an additional coach on the field, thanks to all his experience in big matches over the past decade of NRL.
“It is almost like having a member of the coaching staff out there with you. That's how in-depth his knowledge of the game is, it's really incredible," Graham said on SEN 1170 Drive in June.
“I don't think I've played with a player who has had a better understanding of what other players are perceiving on the field."
It is understood Walker will transition into a coaching role at South Sydney following the 2027 season, joining Wayne Bennett's staff.
Walker's coaching presence will benefit young playmaker Ashton Ward tremendously as he navigates through his first few seasons in the NRL.
The crafty five-eighth ended his 2026 season on a sour note as Walker went down with a calf injury in the 30th-minute of the Elimination Final against Newcastle on Friday.
The Rabbitohs eventually bowed out after the Knights proved to be too strong.
South Sydney is expected to line up with Walker and Ward as the first-choice halves come March next season.
