The first week of the NRL trials is in the books, and more big guns will come out to play during Week 2, with teams beginning to name their teams for the week ahead.

The final official tune up for the season for all 16 clubs will see most coaches pick something closer to their Round 1 run on team then we saw for most clubs last week, with plenty of stars set to be given their first run.

North Queensland Cowboys vs Brisbane Broncos

Kick-off: Saturday, February 26 - 9:00pm (AEDT) - 8:00pm (AEST)
Venue: BB Print Stadium, Mackay

Final team news

The Cowboys are as named, however, the Broncos have been forced into two changes with Tyson Gamble to start for Albert Kelly in the halves and Brenko Lee to start for Herbie Farnworth.

Earlier

As expected, the Broncos will be waiting until Round 1 to roll out Adam Reynolds, who is suffering leg soreness. Albert Kelly and Billy Walters have been handed the start in his absence, while Ezra Mam and Tyson Gamble are on the bench.

Selwyn Cobbo is firming to play fullback in Round 1 with Tesi Niu out, while Corey Oates and Jordan Pereira have been named for the hotly contested wing positions.

Payne Haas is back for his first game of the year too, while Kurt Capewell lines up in the second row as captain.

The Cowboys have named a team which all but resembles what they will run out with in Round 1, with Jason Taumalolo the only big name missing from their side to face the Broncos.

The team virtually is completely changed from last week with only Griffin Neame and Brendan Elliott, albeit demoted to the bench.

Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow will play at fullback, Valentine Holmes in the centres alongside new recruit Peta Hiku, and Tom Dearden will partner Chad Townsend in the halves, while Valentine Holmes, Reece Robson, Heilum Luki and Reuben Cotter are among the other players on the park this weekend.

  1. Braydon Trindall is suspended until round 3, so the obvious starter for rounds 1 and 2 would be Matt Moyland.

However, he isn’t even on the bench, (injured or dropped), so does that mean wunderkid Luke Metcalf is going to get the #7 spot for round 1 ?
