Cowboys prop Josh McGuire is expected to cop a one-week suspension after being cited for first grade dangerous contact in Sunday's second State of Origin fixture.

The charge stems from an incident involving Panthers five-eighth James Maloney in New South Wales' emphatic victory over the Maroons.

An early guilty plea will not save the 29-year-old from suspension, with multiple prior charges ensuring he must serve the one-game sanction.

The Cowboys currently sit in 11th place on the ladder with a 6-8 record, and face the Dragons on Friday night.

  1. How is he constantly allowed to get away with a slap on the wrist. No wonder there is no confidence in the judiciary and NRL review committee. Jokers
