Legendary Australian rock band Silverchair have poured cold water on any chance of them making an appearance at the NRL Grand Final.
The Newcastle-born band are long-time Newcastle Knights supporters, and the reaction to the NRL's deal with Tones and I falling over as the entertainment act in the pre-game was instantly for fans to push a performance from Silverchair.
In a statement released on their social media on Wednesday though, they confirmed they would be too rusty to perform.
"Is this thing still on? For the first time in ages, the three of us actually agreed wholeheartedly about something: GO KNIGHTS!!!" the statement read.
"It's all about the Knights this weekend. We love how footy brings this community together, and it's pretty special watching the whole Steel City get behind the boys.
"Thanks to everyone who's asked if we're playing before the game. We're way too rusty, so sorry, no can do. We won't be taking the stage, but we'll be supporting as loudly as everyone else and there in spirit.
"Wishing the Newy players all the luck in the world this Sunday. UP THE KNIGHTS!!! From The Chair."
Formed in 1992, Silverchair broke up in 2011 owing to, per a statement released by the band at the time, "the spark not being there between the three members."
At the time, Silverchair put the band into indefinite hibernation, and while there has often been talk of the trio returning for a reunion gig, it hasn't happened at this stage.
Instead, the NRL are set to have a number of Australian artists perform You'll Never Walk Alone as Jai Arrow completes a lap of honour in the pre-game, with the Sydney Roosters to play the Newcastle Knights from 7:30pm (AEST) on Sunday evening at Homebush.
