Rabbitohs second-rower Angus Crichton is reportedly contemplating a return to rugby union, having previously played for the Australian Schoolboys rugby union team.

Crichton recently signed a three-year deal with the Sydney Roosters beginning next season, but has not ruled out a return to rugby down the track.

"I don't want to stop at one rep jersey,'' he told Fairfax Media.

"As a rugby league player, you dream of playing for your state and country, not just dreaming of playing for them, but winning and playing well for them.

"That's where my head is at.

"I just inked a three-year deal [with the Sydney Roosters], so I'm in rugby league this year and at least three after it.

"That's a long enough period to look ahead.

"Coming from rugby I'd never rule out the possibility of going back.

"But right now my mindset is on Origin and Souths.''

Souths halfback Adam Reynolds praised his teammate, who said he was stiff to not earn a place in Mal Meninga's Australian World Cup squad last year.

"His numbers were fantastic, and it was what he also did off the ball that only coaches and players pick up on,'' Reynolds told Fairfax Media.

"This year he has excelled in those areas again.

"He's a dangerous player for Freddy to bring on, and hopefully he brings lots of energy and knowledge back to our team.''

Crichton will make his Blues debut off the interchange bench in the upcoming State of Origin Game 1 at the MCG.

The 22-year old is unsure of where he will be utilised on the field for Brad Fittler's team, playing predominately as a back row this season, but coming into the league as a centre.
