The Wigan Warriors have announced the signing of forward Gabriel Hamlin from the South Sydney Rabbitohs.

Hamlin, who is yet to make his NRL debut, secured the move after being recommended to his new side by contacts in Australia.

โ€œMy recent visit to Australia was primarily about our 2018 trip to Wollongong and Sydney however along the way I met with a few familiar faces including Michael Maguire and Pat Richards," saidย Executive Director Kris Radlinski

โ€œHaving worked with us as a Club and more recently with Gabriel both Michael and Pat mentioned that he was available and that he would be the perfect fit for Wigan. Michaelโ€™s words were โ€˜he is someone who is made for our environmentโ€™.

โ€œA wise head on young shoulders, we believe that Gabriel has the potential to blossom here at Wigan.โ€

The 20-year-old, who can play at either at prop or lock, willย joinย the Warriors on a two-year deal.

โ€œIโ€™m really excited about joining Wigan and Iโ€™m flattered that they think me worthy of this opportunity. Iโ€™m very proud of my English heritage, my Mum was actually born in Blackpool," said Hamlin on the move to England.

โ€œAlthough Iโ€™ve never been to the UK before Iโ€™ve heard great things about it. I have studied up on Wiganโ€™s great history and I am thrilled to get the opportunity to represent the Club next season.

โ€œI watch Super League regularly and I am prepared for the challenge that awaits. Itโ€™s very exciting and I intend on making the most of this chance.โ€

Hamlin will link up with his new team-mates when pre-season commences in November.
