The New Zealand Warriors have confirmed the signing of North Queensland Cowboys forward Sam McIntyre on a two-year deal beginning next season.
McIntyre will add valuable versatility and experience to the Warriors' forward pack, capable of filling a role at both prop and second row.
The 28-year-old has made 14 appearances for the Cowboys this season and is closing in on a significant NRL milestone, currently sitting on 95 first-grade games.
McIntyre made his NRL debut for the Wests Tigers in 2020 before spending three seasons with the Gold Coast Titans.
He joined the Cowboys in 2023 and enjoyed a career highlight the following year, featuring in North Queensland's finals clashes against the Newcastle Knights and Cronulla Sharks.
His strong 2024 campaign was capped by selection in the Australian Prime Minister's XIII, where he scored a try in the side's 42-20 victory over Papua New Guinea.
The move to the Warriors will provide the club with additional depth in the forward pack, particularly on the edges following the departure of highly touted youngster Kayliss Fatialofa to the Manly Sea Eagles next season.
“Sam is a terrific addition to our squad from next season,” said One New Zealand Warriors general manager recruitment, pathways and development Andrew McFadden.
“With a few forwards leaving us this year, he'll provide experience and depth to our roster.”
Warriors coach Andrew Webster also highlighted McIntyre's work ethic and toughness, having watched his progression towards becoming an NRL regular.
“Sam impressed with his toughness and the work ethic he had as he pushed towards his NRL debut,” said coach Andrew Webster.
“He'll provide great value to our squad as well as being a real help for the younger forwards on our roster.”
McIntyre will now look to help the Cowboys push towards the finals and reach his 100-game milestone before beginning the next chapter of his career in Auckland with the Warriors.
