John Morris is in contention for the Castleford Tigers' top job after recently departing the Wests Tigers coaching staff.
The Tigers have been searching for a new head coach since the dramatic departure of Ryan Carr in August, with the former St George Illawarra Dragons assistant suspended before an internal investigation was launched.
Carr was subsequently let go by the Super League club amid off-field personal reasons, leaving Castleford needing to find a replacement with the 2027 season approaching.
The coaching upheaval also left the contracts of several incoming players up in the air, including Tyrell Sloan, with it understood one of the key reasons he agreed to join Castleford was the opportunity to reconnect with his former assistant coach.
Morris is now understood to be among the candidates being considered to replace Carr, with Eric Smith, Paul Rowley and Jamie Langley also shortlisted.
The former Cronulla Sharks and South Sydney Rabbitohs player spent three seasons on the coaching staff at the Wests Tigers before departing earlier this month.
Morris brings considerable playing experience to the role, having enjoyed a 14-year NRL playing career that saw him make 300 first-grade appearances.
His coaching career has also included roles with the Sharks and Rabbitohs before joining the Tigers.
Castleford's recruitment plans have already seen several players make the move across from the NRL, with Sloan set to be joined by Dragons teammates Damien Cook and Mathew Feagai.
A decision on Carr's permanent replacement will determine who leads the Tigers into the next phase, with Morris now firmly in contention.
