The Melbourne Storm have quashed reports that coach Craig Bellamy offered to coach the Samoan national rugby league team last year.

According to Fox Sports, the legendary coach saw potential in the side and wanted to bring his own structures and culture to help capitalise on its talent.

However, the Samoa board members reportedly knocked back the offer in favour of incumbent Matt Parish.

The Storm publicly denied the report in a Twitter post.

"We have checked with our coach and this exclusive is incorrect. Craig never offered to coach Samoa," the tweet reads.

"The journalist involved did not contact our coach or the club to check on the story prior to publishing."

Fox Sports have since pulled down the story.

  1. This 12 month old “story” is absolute dribble which wouldn’t have any credibility or interest to anybody. I thought you had more to offer Ben Cotton, but this is not even worth a piece of dirty toilet paper. You need to be more selective about some of the topics that are posted on this site. I consider this an insult to a person’s intelligence.
