Cronulla's Shaun Johnson could be penalised by the NRL after being seen using his mobile phone in the change rooms during his side's loss to the Broncos on Saturday night.

The 28-year old suffered a hamstring injury in the first half and was spotted in the sheds using his phone while icing the damaged muscle.

Mobile phone use in the rooms has been banned by the NRL since 2017 to inhibit the potential of leaked information and betting interests.

It is likely Johnson was simply messaging friends and family members, however, the NRL may not be so lenient on the matter.

Former Melbourne Storm great Billy Slater discussed his thoughts on the topic on the Sunday Footy Show.

"I've been in that situation where you've got a serious injury, or you've been knocked out; I've been knocked out before, too," he said.

"The first thing you want to do is touch base with your family and let them know you're OK, let them know the situation. I'm sure that's all that Shaun was doing in that situation there."

Gold Coast Titans hooker Nathan Peats sympathised with Johnson and believes the NRL should handle the matter with "common sense".

  1. Bit of common sense needed here.

A stern warning letter from the NRL and a reminder of the rule should suffice.

  2. If it was the gangster hanger Corey Norman I would be very concerned. The game thrower since leaving Parra has Parra looking like a super power. Norman against the Roosters obviously had his gangs money riding on a Rooster win with his kicking for the sideline while in the Roosters 20 on attack and not going for a repeat set.💪🎱👍

  3. lol ah you crack me up woody. But yea nothing to see here. Pretty sure he would just have been texting his partner or family of his welfare…. No Biggy!
