The Brisbane Broncos could lose several key players if Wayne Bennett decides to go to South Sydney next season, according to a report by Nine.

James Roberts is reportedly at the top of the list of players who would quit the club if Bennett heads to the Bunnies next season, not in 2020, which is the current plan.

If Roberts was to depart from the Broncos, he will most likely not be following his mentor to Souths, rather than heading back to the Gold Coast.

The centre played some of his best footy for the Titans, including winning the Dally M centre of the year back in 2015.

Gold Coast have been after a top-class centre for a while now, having been reportedly in talks with the Storm's Will Chambers and fellow Bronco Jordan Kahu.

If Bennett does jump ship, the Titans will make the move on Roberts, as he is their preferred signature to secure.

Roberts is on a relatively small contract in terms of NRL contracts, roughly around $300,000- but he would be given a big pay rise from the Gold Coast club.

Its also been reported big forward Tevita Pangai Junior is also considering walking away from the club to follow Bennett to Souths, meanwhile Matt Lodge still remains unsigned by the club.
