The Sydney Roosters will be without hardman Dylan Napa for the next month, in what could be a major blow to his chances of playing in this year's State of Origin series.

Napa has been diagnosed with a low-grade syndesmosis injury suffered in Friday's loss to Manly.

The fiery forward for the Roosters has long been touted as an Origin player and with the season-ending injury to Queensland stalwart Matt Scott, it seemed a no-brainer that Napa would finally make his debut in the maroon.

That has all been thrown into turmoil now with the forward facing a stint on the sidelines.

Napa really should have made his Origin debut last year but was one of eight players banned from playing representative football after breaking curfew during the Emerging Maroons camp.

The Roosters will be looking to bounce back quickly after losing their first game of the season to the Manly Sea Eagles on Friday and the return of forward Kane Evans from a calf injury will be a timely replacement.
