After going back-to-back, the Sydney Roosters will face a salary cap battle to retain as much talent as possible, and one of their stars could be a casualty. But a rival club may not pounce.

Roosters centre Latrell Mitchell is expected to hear from other clubs as of November 1st as he enters the final year of his contract.

The successful centre helped the Roosters secure their Grand Final win against the Canberra Raiders.

However, a cross-town rival may not join the race to lure the superstar.

According to The Daily Telegraph, Mitchell is not in Canterbury's price range as "he wants too much."

It is also reported that the Bulldogs have no real plans to lure Mitchell.

This recent report contradicts mid-season claims that Canterbury planned on offering Mitchell $10 million over ten years.

Mitchell achieved 19 tries from 25 appearances in 2019.

The Roosters have other players who they may also struggle to retain beyond 2020.

Front-rower Siosiua Taukeiaho and centre Joey Manu are amongst the names who come out of contract soon. Co-captain, Jake Friend will also need to make a decision regarding his contractual status.

Mitchell told The Daily Telegraph that the “The sky is the limit."

“(But) it’s something for other people to talk about. Not me. I just want to play footy, enjoy the break and then November will come around.”

  1. LOL. Nobody believes this. Roosters will release somebody I’ve never heard of go to ‘ease the cap pressure’ and then around February will probably sign somebody like the fox who just wants to win premierships and is home sick – and do it all for base salary.

  2. Well lets get this right. Cronk retires freeing up 1 Million and 6 game rookie Flanagan signs at a cost of 300k, everyone but Tetevano is signed until the end of next season (2020) with 700k in the bank.
Sydney could make a play for Wighton if the Roosters do not re-sign Tetevano.

  3. Let’s see what the Cheat Club Broosters will do this time. Obviously they need lots of extra brown bags for all those other extra “people” .. cough cough ‘officials’. LOL

  4. Yeh Zane tetavano and Cronk are gone but according to roosters they’re signing on turbo brothers, wighton, David Fifita and Jai arrow.

    Quick maffs

  5. If you beleive that Twentyone with your new ID, then its no wonder why you follow that loser team Souths. You had us all beleive that the Broncos sacked coach was the master coach, hired to win Sourhs a comp, with a stack of reject imports.

Enough said of your propaganda. Roosters have no need of any more new signings. Everyone is signed up along with our new signing Flanagan. Just have to get Twtevano signed up then its a three-peat with the grand final on our home ground for the next three years. But more like 5 in a row. Get ready for the real Glory Glory. We Rise Up at Easts

  6. Easts are a souless / rorting club nick the trick is putting out fake news again hey nick im not falling for it mate.

  7. AdamWoodRot..
Flanagan isn’t Cronk & doesn’t bring all that finals experience with him. Quite a few other clubs have a better halfback next year than your Cluckers.
No way do they have money to spare fairly. As if most of the players in the first grade squad wouldn’t have been after contract upgrades ( through their managers ), after two competition wins in a row.

  8. Get it through your thick head EastOfdivide Sydney Roosters do not upgrade players mid contract and everyone that they want is signed to at least the end of 2020.

Your mismanaged club Penrith over pay player and had to release many to stay under the cap. The Roosters do not ever have that problem because contracts are signed and what is signed stays. If a player wants an upgrade then the Roosters let them leave. Napa and Ferguson were classic examples.

  9. Shadow if you watch the after game Celebrations of the grand final Cronk nails it when he said The Roosters get called a lot of names but this club has a lot of soul and a massive hear.
Back to Back forever in Sydney’s Shadow.

By the way shadow, how is your back to back going in 1970-1971??????? You forgot to talk that one up. Simpleton.

  10. MarkWoodChips…
You may say that , but you really wouldn’t know what happens at that club with upgrades or anything else. It’s just your assumption.
So players who play very well at other clubs want upgrades, but at the Cluckers that don’t. Even after two premiership wins. Yeah right…
You made reply about the new halfback there. He’s still not Cronk. We all saw the difference when Peace was the halfback.

  11. Flanagan has only got 8 nrl games under his belt but with Cronk taking him under his wing will get the job done.
Last year he Captained the NSW residents as well as the Under 20s NSW side.
He led the Newtown Jets to the Intrust grand final and named halfback in the ISP team of he year.
He also took out best back and leading points scorer at Jets end of season awards.
Selected in Junior Kangaroos. The year before broke the Holden Cup points scoring record with 20 tries and 140 goals.
Looks like he will fit in just fine.

  12. EastOfDivide you are the person assuming, just as you assume my name is connected to Woodchips who ever that is.

The Roosters stick to a budget and that means sticking to signed contracts. We can all see what is happening with Matterson. Thats why he is not playing for the Roosters anymore.
Nick Politis has made it publicly clear that Sydney offer what they believe to be fair and reasonable to players, Nick has stated that they refuse to go into a bidding war. If you have not read his public talks then google it.

Many players choose to walk like Maloney, Tuivasa-Sheck, Jennings, Moa, Ferguson, Matterson, Napa, Momiroski, O’Sullivan, Watson, Pearce, Guerra, Nene McDonald, Kane Evans, Moga, Mortimer and many more because the majority wanted a pay rise.

Napa is happy playing for 650k with a team in rebuild, Tuivasa – Sheck has played his last grand final but he is on 1.2 million with the Warriors and does not care, he won a premiership with the Chooks now all they want is money not the enjoyment of a successful season. Same goes for Maloney, Fergo, Matterson, Pearce, Guerra, Napa they all won comps at the Roosters now they chase money.

The Roosters need and want players with the drive for success to be paid well but a little less than elsewhere, the benefits for those players are rep teams, semi finals and premierships. Still with a healthy income but not as much as elsewhere. The players sign up and if they want more money then the exit door is their choice. But no upgrades until the renegotiate their next contract. Its not rocket science EastOfDivide. But being a Penrith fan you people do not understand this dimple formula. Simply because your club continues to release players mid season due to salary cap issues. Its called mismanagement. Penrith are not successful but they are sure great at that.
