Brisbane centre James Roberts is waiting in the wings for another chance to cement himself in the Broncos' side, although a reunion with former coach Wayne Bennett at the Rabbitohs isn't out of the question.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, one of Roberts' most trusted family members recently met with Bennett over Roberts' future, with the pair linking up for 73 games together at Brisbane between 2016-2018.

Roberts began his career with South Sydney, playing 10 games for the club before he was sacked due to off-field indiscretions.

The move could eventuate, although the Rabbitohs will be waiting until next week when the NRL determine just how much of recently retired Greg Inglis' remaining $1.5 million salary is absorbed into the Bunnies' cap.

South Sydney have been looking at options to fill the vacant centre position, and the relationship between Bennett and Roberts could see the 26-year-old at the head of the list.

      • Agree, Cooper Cronk like Sterlo has a magnificent football brain and both could be one day as great as Robinson. Bellamy was number 1 up until last years grand final but with the changing of the guard Robo has proven he is slightly in front with his recent premiership win and backed it up in Melbourne over Melbourne with half a footy side injured.

        Bennett is passed his best and is ranked within the bottom 8 these days. The sacking by Brisbane proved that to all fans. And that is being nice to the old relic. 👴🧓👴🧓👴🧓👵

  10. Don’t need him . Burns is being quite adequately replaced by Turner . Scored a great try and his defence was second to none last night . Turner is very competent and a lot more solid a player than Roberts . If Bennett wants depth grab Moga from Knights reserve grade .

Look Brisbane sacked the old bloke Bennett and if, and that’s a big IF, the Bronco’s decide to let rat tail Roberts walk/sack him, they have no body else to replace him. Staggs is not quite ready and the overrated dud Roberts is still their best bet. I can’t see him being fired/released. Seibold out of spite will never allow Bennett to get one of his gun players if he was a real champion. Now if he admits that Roberts is useless, then and only then will soufffffffs add to the “TRANSIT LOUNGE”
