It is believed that Knights star Kalyn Ponga has moved to extend his stay at the club with a rich contract proposal.

Fox Sports is reporting that the 21-year-old's manager has recently spoken with the club about a four-year deal worth $6 million.

The young star is currently contracted until the end of the 2021 season with a player-option for 2022, but this new deal would see him through until the end of the 2023 campaign.

Ponga's manager Wayde Rushton confirmed the two sides had met, but did not disclose the terms discussed.

“I did recently meet with Newcastle about an upgrade and extension for Kalyn,” Rushton told Fox Sports.

Ponga is currently in the midst of another impressive season, scoring nine tries and assisting on eight in his 15 games to rapidly become one of the brightest stars in the NRL.

11th-placed Newcastle will travel to Bankwest Stadium for a date with the sixth-placed Eels on Saturday.

  1. So he is already signed till the end of 2021 at 600k per season. So why would you then resign him at 1.5m a year when he is already signed. Gee that’s managing the salary cap.

  2. He isn’t worth it. Yes maybe upgrade him now but he isn’t worth 1.5 mil.
Turbo is going to get 1.1 and he is way more important and just an overall better player. Except for 1 play against manly he was not interested and was completely outclassed and a passenger, whereas Tom made a coupe mistakes but continually tries and gets in opportunities. There is no comparison and Tom won’t be on near that money

  3. No player is worth that, not Tedesco not Turbo and certainly not Ponga. Let him go to Rugby if he wants that sort of money.

BTW Ramien was kicked out of the club due to a senior player revolt over his serial whinging and being late to training too often.

  4. Tommy Turbo is worth that as he can play fullback, both sides at centre and on the wing and excel at all.
Kalyn is a pure fb but a handy 6 as well and worth near that unlike ballerina Tedesco who is no good at any other position than fullback.
Turbo, Ponga and Sheck all a class above Tedesco for me.

  5. so TwentyOne are you admitting that they are all worse fullbacks than Tedesco? As we saw with Ponga, he obviously isn’t capable of playing as a 6, and Turbo is way less effective playing a centre role. You want someone who is the best at that postition, especially in key roles such as fullback. None of them deserve the amount that Ponga wants (including Ponga).

  6. If the Knights don’t pay him 1.5 Million per season, The Chicken Nuggets will step in & buy him for the same amount. Also buy Ramien & still be way under the cap. Good accountants you see!
