Cronulla five-eighth Kyle Flanagan is likely to sign with the Sydney Roosters before the June 30 transfer deadline, according to a report by The Daily Telegraph.

It comes as the 20-year old is about to lose his first-grade position to the returning Shaun Johnson from injury.

Sydney would be a valuable landing spot for Flanagan, where he would fill in for Luke Keary and learn under veteran halfback Cooper Cronk.

In further news, his dad, Shane Flanagan, is being courted by the Canterbury Bulldogs.

The former Sharks coach is currently serving his indefinite ban but is likely to be cleared to return in 2021, where he could take over the top job at Belmore from Dean Pay.

Flanagan has reportedly been approached by a member of the Bulldogs, who believe that the 2016 premiership coach is the man that could rebuild the club.

Canterbury would need to get a clearance from the NRL for Flanagan to return to coaching.

  1. Could be a great move for young Kyle Flanagan. Always rated him coming through the ranks and once his dad got the sack and Johnson came on board thought it was only time before he left. If he leaves now for the Roosters not only will he fill in for Keary and learn off Cronk but next year once Cronk retires he will get to have a starting spot next to one of the best halves in the game right now. He also gives the Roosters a really good goal kicking option. As for Shane Flan, I think heโ€™s a good coach and I think Dean Pay the doggies is a headless chook. Anyone could do a better job than Dean but I though Shane would end up at the Dragons

  2. What salary cap?
Let’s just go out at any time & buy a new player.
What happens to Lam , when he comes back? Guess he , Lamb get the flick at the end of the year?
Yes, what about Walker? Maybe a few of them just get the flick if Walker is there & goes into first grade , in two years time.

  3. Hey Chalky, announced in the Courier Mail today that Sam Walker signed a 2 year deal with the Roosters.

  4. To be fair to Dean Pay, he hasn’t exactly got a great roster to work with. It reminds me of a comment Warren Ryan made when Gold Coast sacked a coach: “even JC couldn’t get that mob into the semis”. It might have been Bob McCarthy, but not sure.
