The Broncos are confident off retaining rising star David Fifita, according to The Courier Mail.

Off-contract at the end of 2020, the 19-year old is free to sign with rival clubs from Friday.

A number of NRL suitors are set to come calling with big-money offers, including the Warriors, Roosters and Rabbitohs.

But Brisbane are optimistic that Fifita will remain at Red Hill even if it means he gets paid less than a million a year.

It's a decision that Fifita has said he will involve his family with.

“I just worry about my footy and whatever my mum wants I will do because she is the one who has always been there and seen everything,” Fifita said last week.

“She will make the call – and she will make the right one for me. She will be the one that probably would make my decision. She does everything for me and whatever she says goes.”

Retaining Fifita would give the Broncos one of the strongest engine rooms in the league, with stars such as Payne Haas, Tevita Pangai Jr, Joe Ofahengaue and Matt Lodge.

  1. With all due respect Ben, what’s different about your article to all others regarding Fifita in the past week?
Look forward to the 1st article with a confirmation of his signature somewhere.

  2. I understand players taking a little less to stay at a club they like, but surely to stay he’d be taking less than half of what he can get elsewhere which is not smart.

  3. I’d like to see him stay and keep that good young group of forwards at the Bronco’s together. If they are able to keep them there in a few years the Bronco’s pack will be hard to get over the top of.

  4. I told you so!
Players using other clubs offers to drive their own new contract prices up.
Yet, Brisbane have just as many ways to pay players, as those constant player buying clubs further south. Just as many corporate sponsors not connected to the club. Who can pay any amount necessary, to keep Brisbane’s best in Brisbane.
So cluck on all you Wood hens. Nothing to see here.

ŚTD, thanks for that! It’s like we never knew this was happening many years ago. Until you told us. Hahahahahahahaha

  6. There’s one Woodenhead , who likes to blow his wood shavings around under different aliases.
He was blabbing on & on . All about how Fifita should come & play in the chicken coupe, if he wants to win a premiership.
I guess this will be another case of Nick not getting his way, just because of deep pockets & corporate sponsorships. You can’t out corporate sponsorship the biggest club in the competition & the only club actually in Brisbane.
    Good to see! 👍
If you don’t like the chat about unlimited corporate sponsorships? Tough luck. Get your club to stop endlessly using them.
