The South Sydney Rabbitohs have granted recruit Jonah Glover permission to look elsewhere on the market after limited opportunities to progress into an NRL starter.
Fresh reports from the Sydney Morning Herald reveal Glover's management has been told he is far behind the pecking order for starting halves at the club, with Jayden Sullivan, Ashton Ward and Cody Walker all in front of him currently.
Interestingly enough, on Thursday the Rabbitohs granted permission for him to negotiate elsewhere, despite Walker being unsigned for next year.
Glover received a heartbreaking setback, and was in line to make his NRL debut in Round 1 this year but suffered a broken jaw in the preseason against his former club, the St George Illawarra Dragons.
The 24-year-old half had his path blocked to the NRL while at the Red V, and was also placed down the pecking order despite tearing it up in NSW Cup for the Dragons.
Glover returned to the Rabbitohs NSW Cup side from his jaw injury in mid-April and has been one of the club's best, but still hasn't managed to make it into the 19 for the Rabbitohs NRL side this season.
He has 61 games of NSW Cup experience, and is widely considered ready to step up to NRL level.
Peter Mamouzelos and Isaiah Tass are other South Sydney players who are free to speak with rival clubs after having limited time in the NRL under Wayne Bennett.
It is likely Glover will find a new home, and has impressed progressing through the ranks.
It's including a Jersey Flegg title win with the Bulldogs in 2023, playing 21 reserve grade games for the Dragons in 2024, then recording 26 games the following year while earning a position in NSW Cup Team of the Year after taking the Red V to a Grand Final.
Glover displays a composed kicking game and has shown his ability to steer a side around the park, which will help his chances at securing a new contract.
He has been named at halfback for the Rabbitohs' clash against the Bulldogs in NSW Cup on Friday afternoon.
