Canberra have released forward Liam Knight into the waiting arms of South Sydney, despite the Raiders recently suggesting Knight would remain at the club in 2019.

The 23-year-old has joined the Rabbitohs on Monday according to the Sydney Morning Herald, on the back of some long courting by new coach Wayne Bennett.

Ex-Rabbitohs boss and now Brisbane coach Anthony Seibold believed Bennett was working on bringing Knight to Redfern before the two coaches swapped positions, and it looked as though he was on the money, with Knight joining his fourth club.

The prop played nine of his 10 NRL games last season for the Raiders, coming off the bench on all nine occasions.
