Panthers hooker Wayde Egan has agreed to three-year deal with the New Zealand Warriors.

The 22-year old came through the Penrith system, totalling 29 NRL appearances.

He will join his new teammates when pre-season kicks off early next month.

“We’re delighted to agree terms with Wayde for three years. He’s a high-quality hooker who had an outstanding NYC career and has really impressed since coming into first grade,” Warriors general manager football Brian Smith told the club website.

“We welcome him and look forward to his contribution to our club in 2020 and beyond.

“His enthusiasm and skills at dummy half have attracted the attention of our recruitment and coaching staff and we know he’ll make a significant impact with us.”

Egan impressed at under-20 level for the NYC team in 2017, scoring 18 tries in 21 games.

Between 2016 and 2017 he scored 30 tries in 40 matches.

  1. Ahahahaha Ahahahaha Unbelievable that if players do not get sacked mid contract at Penrith then they are leaving this hopeless organisation quicker than Souths buy and release their annual 20 player turnover per season.

I believe the off season battle between Souths and Penrith to fight it out for this years Transition Lounge Suit Award will go right down to the wire.
My Tip …… Souths in a cliffhanger.

  2. Man really hate the decision my warriors make.

I don’t want to disrespect Egan but we don’t need another young hooker who looked good in under 20, 3 years ago. We already have Lawton and Roache two players who have lots of promise and play well but are always injured. Brandon Smith should’ve been the man we went for, throw him a deal like 4 years 700k, so he can’t refuse. If he says no then sound out how much Brisbane would be willing to pay of McCulloghs wages if we were to take him, I’d be happy to pay 500k for McCullogh for a year or two. If we can’t get him done for cheap enough we should’ve got Danny Levi as the third and last option he is young, plays with lots of heart and has good potential on attack and defence to improve.

As I hear it, apparently we have offered lots for Kurt Capewell to come too. Yet another dumb decision. We already have Harris, Pappalii, Blair, Pulu and more capable of playing second row and we don’t need to overpay for another player to join that group. We need a Big Solid Prop to lead our team. Josh Pap, Marty Taupau, Luke Thompson, JWH, JFH, NAS or someone of that ilk.

  3. Egans departure is due to the arrival of Korisau and Mitch Kenney coming through the ranks. There is no point in having 3 hookers in your top 30. The Panthers tried Egan and Katoa since Peter Wallace retired. The lack of creativity around the ruck was fairly evident this year. Time to try something new. Good luck to Egan and the Warriors.

  4. Penrith seem to be in a really bad place, no wonder Phil Gould got out of the joint. They appear to be headed for a long stay near the bottom of the ladder for some years.

Even with Penrith Panthers being the fifth highest ranked on the TPA list behind Souths, they still struggle to stay under the cap with a team of overrated nobodies.

  5. i hear you swa6 but egan has promise roach is broke man every year dude breaks down if he good at the start of next and has no issues he no 9 obviously , we needed another hooker our end of year antics were horrible im allg with this signing

  6. The Warriors have attracted more hookers than a desperate old fart wandering down the main street of Kings Cross with his wallet hanging out!
