NRL statement on James Roberts

The NRL Integrity Unit has determined that no action will be taken against Brisbane Broncos player James Roberts, but the matter will remain open in case any further evidence becomes available.

NRL Head of Integrity Nick Weeks said extensive inquiries had been conducted into allegations that Roberts assaulted a female patron of a Gold Coast nightclub earlier this month.

He said that, on the evidence currently available, it was not reasonable to take disciplinary action against Roberts.

Mr Weeks said it was disappointing that the nightclub operators had refused to allow the NRL to view footage from the evening in question.

"We need to judge the case on the facts available to us and, at this time, there is insufficient evidence to take disciplinary action against James," Mr Weeks said.

Mr Weeks said the Broncos and Roberts had co-operated with the Integrity Unit throughout the investigation.
