Newcastle's Mitch Barnett has received some positive news on his injured ankle, with the clubs revealing he will not require surgery.

After sustaining the injury against the Cowboys last weekend, reports emerged that Barnett could miss up to two months following surgery.

However, after reviewing his ankle, specialists have ruled out an operation, with the 23-year-old set to have intensive physiotherapy.

He is expected to miss the next six weeks.
