They have already signed young gun Kalyn Ponga but the Knights aren't stopping there, with reports they are now targeting Sharks superstar Jack Bird.

Speaking to Daily TelegraphNewcastle Knights CEO Matt Gidley confirmed the club's interest in Bird.

“He is a player we’d like to have a conversation with,” Gidley said.

“He is young, highly talented and is already a rep player. He has a huge future in front of him. If he is interested in coming to Newcastle, that’s the first step.

“There is the lifestyle of Newcastle and we are building a young, talented team. Jack would certainly fit in there.

“We have the ability to bring in further marquee players but it’s important we get the right ones to complement these kids we have coming through.

“There are a number of players we are looking at and we will look to wrap things up in the new year.”
