The Newcastle Knights are ramping up their bid to sign Cronulla Sharks star Jack Bird, offering him a $2.7 million deal and the opportunity to play five-eighth.

Channel 7 has reported that the Knights have tabled a three-year, $2.7 million, deal to try and lure Bird aware from the Shire.

Not only are the Knights offering more money per season than the Sharks, they are also offering Bird a chance to play in the halves.

Bird has made it no secret he wants the ball in his hands and with the Sharks looking to play him in either the centres or at lock, the ability to play five-eighth with the Knights will be tempting.

The Knights aren't the only club keen on Bird though, with the Parramatta Eels also reported to be in the race for his signature.

The Eels are in the market for a marquee half to partner Corey Norman and Jack Bird certainly fits the bill.
