The result of Tariq Sims' dangerous contact charge could determine whether Knights star David Klemmer lines up for the Blues in next week's State of Origin decider.

29-year-old Sims has come under scrutiny for an incident in the Dragons' 22-14 win over the Cowboys on Friday night. He could have accepted a two-game punishment with an early guilty plea, which would have ruled him ineligible until round 17, but he has decided to contest the ruling.

An unsuccessful challenge would add an extra game, keeping him out until round 18.

However, if Sims is successful, he will be able to play in the third Origin clash, which may prevent 25-year-old Klemmer from finding his way into the New South Wales squad.

With the Blues' squad to be unveiled later on Monday, it is believed that coach Brad Fittler may decide against making changes to the victorious game two team, which would leave Klemmer on the outer.

Klemmer has been sidelined since game one with a broken wrist.
