Melbourne skipper Cameron Smith has escaped with a fine for slapping Parramatta’s Reed Mahoney in Saturday's semi final.

The veteran was hit with a a grade one contrary conduct charge, carrying a $1350 fine for an early plea.

If Smith unsuccessfully challenged the sanction, he would receive a $1800 fine.

The two-time premiership star denied any malice in the act.

“Absolutely not,” Smith said when asked if he was trying to strike his fellow Queenslander.

“Reed had a really good hold of me after I kicked the ball and he wouldn’t let go.

“I missed the mark and clipped him high. It wasn’t intentional.

“But the ruling was that I got him. It’s a consistent ruling with what happened last night so I’m happy with that.”

Additionally, Eels Eels winger Maika Sivo has been banned for one game for a grade one shoulder charge on Melbourne's Ryan Papenhuyzen.

If he fights the play he will miss two games.

  1. Yes, its a fine but roosters will whinge all week that he deserves suspension for that dangerous action blah, blah, blah.
Funny when the shoe is on the other foot how they can cry fowl (HAHA) when they have a saint in Hargreaves in their club.
Goodbye roosters for 2019 and Souths v Storm GF

  2. I said yesterday that he’s Smith & playing for the Storm. No chance of a suspension.
To be honest, it really wasn’t that bad or that big a deal. Plus, he wasn’t going to the judiciary after already being there many other times this season. So a fine was fine.

  3. Rooorters 18 – Storm 19
    Raiders 22 – Souffs 16

Rooorters only win 40% without Hargreaves. Storm forwards will roll on over them but Rooorters backlinme will keep them in it No doubt this will go down to the wire or be decided by imbecilic ref/bunker brain-snap.

  4. I believe you are incorrect Daffy. Let the punter just concentrate on the absence of this season for JWH. After all this player has played in many different squads over ten seasons with Easts. Over those ten years with the Roosters he has played in 80 loses from 212 games for a 61% win rate when he plays. These are irrelevant statistics.

This season with this squad of team members is all that matters. JWH was absent from 6 games throughout the 2019 season and the team won 4 of those games without him for a winning percent of 66.6
Put your money on a Roosters victory with a 33.4% loss rate when he does not play. With three other test props in Taukeiaho, Tetevano and Liu and huge giant rookie Collins in great form. The Roosters at home are the best bet.
