Josh Dugan injury not as bad as first feared

Josh Dugan is a chance to play for the Dragons this week after scans revealed the injury isn’t as bad as first feared.

Dugan failed to finish the match against Rabbitohs on the weekend after he rolled his ankle while attempting a tackle.

Dragons fans feared the worst, with Dugan looking to be in a lot of pain from the injury.

Scans have since revealed a best case scenario for St George Illawarra as they look to regain a spot in the Top 8, with Dugan a chance to play this week with some rehab.

Dragons Head of Athletic Performance Nathan Pickworth had the following to say on the injury.

“Josh obviously rolled his ankle on Friday night,” said Pickworth.

“The MRI scan has revealed he’s got some damage to his lateral ligaments.

“We’re fortunate those ligaments can settle down pretty quickly.

“So we’ll see how he goes throughout the week and give him every chance to play.”

  1. I’d be giving him an early release. At club level he is such a liability, injury wise, which usually results in Dragons short an interchange

  2. Surely he won’t play this week. The Dragons need to start winning, and you can’t afford to risk having him watching from the bench.

What a season for the Dragons. They looked like candidates for a bottom 4 spot in pre season, got off to a flyer and looked to have a top 8 spot locked in, and now look like they’ve spilled their lollies. It’s probably a coincidence but, they won 8/12 before Mary signed the contract extension (and is why he was given 1 no doubt), and predominately only lost to top sides, and have only won 1/8 since, and pretty much lost to all and sundry.

I don’t watch the Dragons closely enough to know if that could be justified by major injuries etc. but that’s a pretty damning stat, if there’s not a very good reason.

  3. Dragons fans feared the worst….
    I didn’t.
Lately it’s like the going gets tough Dugan gets injured.
Leave him out and have this backline.
    1. Dufty
    2. Mcdonald
    3. Mann
    4. Aitken/lafai
    5. Nightingale
    6. Widdop
    7. Field

    Cheers

    • Would u change out MCrone..?
Its not our attack its defence and im not sure Field can defend the edge when Dufty will also struggle at the back on tackles all be it he reads the kick really well.

    • Aitken is gone for the season most likely, McDonald’s read’s in defense are terrible, McCrone couldn’t find grass in Nimbin, dragons second half of the season has been a disgrace for the most part, 3 from 12 is a joke and we think we should be in the eight.
Why can’t Mary coach the wingers how mark up in defense and not rush in and leave their opposite number unmarked. We’ve seen about 30 tries scored against us down both wings, Nightingale is often as bad. McCrone tries his guts out but just can’t kick to save his life. I’d definitely blood Field or Nona and Dugan sucks as a centre and is always injured, so let him go now or put Dufty to centre and Dugan back to fb.

Finally what the hell goes on in the half-time break with dragons. There second half efforts are shocking most of the time and unless we are leading by 30 points we are often run down or nearly run-down.

Really disgusted to see how they have imploded yet again at the business end of the season.
