The Cowboys have signed Broncos utility Jordan Kahu on a one-year deal, according to a report by NRL Media.

The 28-year old will help cover the loss of Ben Barba and is capable of playing a variety of positions, including fullback, centre and wing.

Kahu scored 42 tries in his 95 NRL games for the Broncos, also earning nine caps for the New Zealand Kiwis.

"To pick up a player of Jordan’s ability and experience at this stage of the pre-season is a massive bonus for us," Cowboys coach Paul Green told NRL Media.

"He gives us depth at a number of positions, he’s a very good centre and he’s played wing and fullback as well.

"His goal kicking ability is the added bonus on top of everything else he offers."

Kahu just returned from the New Zealand Maoi All-Star camp in Melbourne but trained with his new teammates on Monday.

  1. Good result for the Cowboys considering the predicament barba left the club in.
While not known as a game breaker, if kahu can stay fit, he will offer a reliable solution to the fullback/ outside back role.

  2. He was a brilliant junior at Fullback. But he has rarely played in that position in recent years and is just a solid utility back. They would be better often developing young talent internally.

  3. Good player but not great. Nice buy for the Cows and for Kahu as he can at least make a bench spot in NQLD. At the Broncos he was sliding down the rankings and was set for a season of intrust and coming in for injuries and Origin.
All the best. You are better than intrust and hopefully get a few good years before going to the Warriors for a last season or Super League where NRL players go to get the last paycheck.

  4. 1. Ben Hampton
    2. Kyle Fedlt
    3. Jordan Kahu
    4. Justin O’Neil
    5. Nene MacDonald

This is the backline I would be rolling with. Ben Hampton showed good promise last year in fullback and having them there he could easily link up with the halves and know the plays. Think Fedlt and MacDonald will give you good kick returns to start your sets. Think the right edge of O’Neil and MacDonald could be abit weak on defense but on attack they would have a real speedster and a big strong tall body. Be interesting to see who the goal kicker is with no Thurston. Possibly Fedlt or Kahu or one of the halves

  5. Pretty sure he will start at FB or centre, will have the Goal kicking job unless Feldt has improved dramatically.
He was a reliable fullback and has a decent pass, unfortunately his speed has left him due to all the leg injuries recently. Good pickup for Cowboys.

  6. Kahu is a great buy for the Cows. Very underrated player. Solid and gets job done most times. I’d have him in my team any day.
