South Sydney has announced the re-signing of John Sutton for a 16th season.

Sutton has made 308 appearances for the Rabbitohs since making his debut in 2004.

The 34-year-old captained Souths to the 2014 premiership title and became the first player to play 300 NRL games for the Rabbitohs.

Sutton told the Rabbitohs website he is delighted to re-sign with the Redfern club.

"I couldn't be happier about having the opportunity to play another season with Souths," Sutton said.

"I love the Rabbitohs, I love playing for the members and the fans, and I can't wait to get back to training and ripping in to get ready for the season ahead."

Sutton will make his 309th NRL appearance when the Rabbitohs face the Sydney Roosters in round one next season.
