Former NRL star Jarryd Hayne is set to join the coaching staff of one of the teams competing in the 2026 Rugby League World Cup.
Hayne has an impressive NRL and representative career playing for both Australia and Fiji.
The Daily Telegraph has reported that the former Eels star has held talks with Fiji to help the side when they compete in the World Cup.
It is not the first time he has been around the Fiji side in a staff role.
Hayne joined Fiji's coaching and mentoring staff in 2024 for the Pacific Championships, which was his first return to rugby league since 2018 under coach Wise Kativerata.
He worked closely with multiple NRL stars, including Viliame Kikau, Maika Sivo before he joined the Super League, and Sunia Turuva.
In July this year, it was announced that former NRL coach Mick Potter would coach the Bati in October.
Potter was part of the staff that saw Fiji's huge upset over New Zealand in the 2017 Rugby League World Cup.
Kevin Naiqama, who was Fiji's former captain, has also joined Potter's coaching staff.
In Round 24, Hayne appeared when the Eels defeated the Cowboys.
The 38-year-old was invited as the club held a 2009 reunion night for the team that made a grand final appearance as the 8th-placed side after being 14th three months prior.
When the club posted photos of Hayne on all its social media platforms, it created controversy.
The comments section on the post had to be turned off.
The two-time Dally M Medallist was freed from jail in 2024, after he had convictions for two counts of sexual assault in 2018.
Through an appeal, the convictions were overturned.
Hayne was also recently in the news, revealing he was not invited by the San Francisco 49ers to the NFL's historic Week 1 clash against the LA Rams at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
The former NRL star spent time with the 49ers in 2015, one of Australian sport's most talked-about crossover attempts.
Hayne could potentially be around the Fiji camp prior to their opening match against the Cook Islands in Newcastle, the first of their three pool matches.
