Jarryd Hayne has taken a swipe at the San Francisco 49ers, revealing he wasn't invited to any of the club's events surrounding the NFL's historic Week 1 clash against the LA Rams at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
The former NRL star, who spent time with the 49ers in 2015 in one of Australian sport's most talked-about crossover attempts, marked the occasion on a Facebook post with a mix of nostalgia and frustration.
"Lettssss goooo babyyyy!!!" Hayne wrote, celebrating the occasion before pivoting to a more pointed message about his standing with his old club.
Hayne noted that his tickets for the game had fallen through and that he had not been contacted by the 49ers organisation, calling the lack of communication "disappointing."
The former Eels star added that only "the good teams stick solid," a line widely read as a shot at how the franchise has treated him since his playing days.
Despite his frustration, Hayne struck a warmer tone toward the players and staff he crossed paths with during his stint at the club, saying he still holds love for the "49er people" and his former teammates, particularly those he believes were also left surprised he wasn't part of the week's festivities.
He closed the post by wishing Melbourne fans a memorable day at the historic fixture, signing off with "Go Niners!"
The 49ers defeated the Rams 27-7 in front of 100,021 fans at the venue on Friday morning.
Hayne famously walked away from a lucrative rugby league career with the Parramatta Eels in 2014 to chase an NFL dream, signing with the 49ers n 2015.
He spent a season with the franchise before leaving fotball to represent Fiji in rugby sevens at the 2016 Rio Olympics.
It had also been reported during the week that former Brisbane Broncos front-rower Abenjamin Te Kura had completed a workout with Hayne's former NFL club.
