Broncos utility Jack Bird is set to remain at the club despite seeking opportunities elsewhere.

The 24-year old's future has been up in the air after testing his value on the open market, with Brisbane looking to ease salary cap pressure.

He has played just 17 games at Red Hill over the last two seasons since crossing from Cronulla, getting hampered by injuries.

Bird's manager Chris Orr said discussions with other clubs haven't gone anywhere.

“There has been no meaningful discussions or sit-downs with other clubs,” Orr told The Courier Mail.

“If an offer does come along that Jack likes then we will consider that.

“At this stage, Jack will be at the Broncos for next year.

“From all reports coming out of the Broncos, Jack is training the house down to be fit and ready for 2020.”

It was reported by The Courier Mail earlier this month that St George Illawarra and the Bulldogs were interested in signing the former Origin star.

Broncos legend and recruitment-and-retention committee member Darren Lockyer told The Courier Mail last month that Bird can return to the first-grade team next season.

“The 2020 season is a big year for Jack,” Lockyer said.

“It is not his fault, he’s had some injuries and he hasn’t been able to stay on the footy field which is a shame.

“He was playing decent footy this year before his knee injury so maybe he can fight his way back if he stays around.”

  1. Bird would’ve been good for the Dragons. They’ve obviously said that Aiken and Dufty both can go. Plus they haven’t made any signings yet but let Widdop leave, Latimore retire, and youngsters Masters and Robson both have left.

Bird is from Wollongong and started his career at the Dragons I thought it would suit him. He would have a good opportunity in the centres and possibly Fullback. It’s not like the Dragons suck either they have good players like James Graham, Frizell, Sims, Hunt and Norman and stuff

  2. @swa9amuff1n – you clearly know your footy mate.

Your posts on all teams & their players are always insightful & without attitude – a rarity on here.Well done !!

In relation to St.George’s Recruitment process – I agree it appears broken. Team comes second last, has decent salary cap room & does not buy anybody of note.

I am not saying Bird is the answer, but no other decent options seem to be on offer…….
