Luke Keary has been ruled out of the Origin opener after suffering a concussion in his side's loss to the Knights on Friday night.

The Roosters playmaker went down in the eighth minute after getting tackled by Daniel Saifiti and did not return.

Keary was considered one of the frontrunners to be named in the Blues halves, with Rabbitohs pair Adam Reynolds and Cody Walker or Panthers duo Nathan Cleary and James Maloney now firming.

"The No. 6 jersey was Luke's to lose, but he's definitely out of game one,'' Fittler told the Sydney Herald.

"Speaking with Trent Robinson this morning, Luke needs to now do a whole heap of tests.

"I love the kid. He's little but plays so tough. We just have to wait to see what happens today, watch the games and then make a decision."

Keary revealed that he was nervous going into the game based off his recent history with concussion.

"For the first time in my career I was a bit tentative at the start, just coming off that and the fact I've had a few the last 12 months," Keary said.

"Once I was into it I was fine. But there were nerves there. I don't normally get nervous. I watched the [Storm hit] a few times but don't remember it. I did all the tests and ticked off everything and I was fine. But you don't want too many."

  1. Bad lick there for Luke Keary, I thought Keary and Pearce after five man of the match performances in a row deserved the Origin duties but I’m hearing from the News TV stations that Pearce has a groin injury.

    So there is only one option left and that is Walker and Reynolds. Both inform and winning deserve the Blues spot. Cleary has had numerous opportunities to impress but like last year played one good game just before Origin and was picked after being injured for 5 or 6 weeks and was rushed into to do a job which he did not do. Maloney ran the entire show last season. Cleary was a passenger
