The Gold Coast Titans have confirmed Joe Greenwood's departure from the club, effective immediately.

He will return home to England after signing a deal with the Wigan Warriors. Greenwood was signed to the Titans until the end of the 2019 season.

Greenwood joined the Titans at the start of 2017 and played 22 games throughout his debut year. This season however, he has been unable to get back on the team as he's no longer a first option, now behind new emerging talent Keegan Hipgrave and new recruits Jai Arrow and Bryce Cartwright.

Unlikely to get another game with the Titans, Greenwood was granted permission to negotiate with other clubs. Titans' coach Garth Brennan spoke on the situation:

"Joe has been given an opportunity to return home and to play top flight rugby league at one of the premier clubs in the English Super League," Titans coach Garth Brennan told titans.com.au.

"The entire club wish him all the best for the future and I know he will be a success back in his home country."

Although Greenwood said he was with the titans for the 'long haul', it's understood he knew of the situation and that it was unlikely he would make it back into the side.
